Pili Pala Press was founded in 1993 to publish walking guides to Spain and Portugal. Pili Pala, for the uninitiated, is Welsh for butterfly (the clue's in the logo). We could say that we chose the name to reflect our love of nature and our restless desire for travel, but really we just like the way it sounds.

our philosophy

Pili Pala Press cares passionately about the environment. And we put our money where our environmental mouth is. We donate 4% of the cover price of each book sold to environmental organizations working in Portugal and Spain.

In 2007, Pili Pala Press donated $1900 to the World Wildlife Fund's Cork Oak Forest Programme. The money represents 4% of the cover price of every Pili Pala Press book sold in 2006. A big thank you to all our customers for making this happen!

Each year, Pili Pala Press donates money to organizations working in Spain and Portugal. Sales from 2005 also went to the Cork Oak Forest Campaign. Sales in 2004 went to the Confraternity of St James' new albergue in Miraz on the Camino del Norte.

Money from sales in 2002 and 2003 went to SEO/BirdLife to help with their efforts to clean up after the Prestige oil spill. The Prestige sank off the coast of Galicia in November 2002 and caused widespread damage to wildlife and beaches.

In earlier years, Pili Pala Press has donated money to protect the Iberian Lynx, the world's most endangered wild cat, now reduced to just 150 animals in Portugal and Spain.

Money from sales of Walking in Portugal in 2001 went to SOS Lynx, an organization formed to protect the world's most endangered wild cat.

Money from sales of Walking in Portugal in 2000 went to the World Wildlife Fund's Campaign for Europe's Carnivores.
